Remote Newbie Lost in the Forrest
« on: December 10, 2022, 10:48:36 AM »

I have a IC-7610 that I've had for about 4 months.  Love it on CW.  I want to remoted the radio.  In understand it already has a server (RSBA1) installed in the firmware.  OK, I get that.  I also understand that I will have to define a static IP address and open ports.  What I don't get is the client side software for either Windows or Android (if it exist).  Where to you get the client side software to put on a laptop or tablet?  There seems to be very little information about all this when I Google it...or I am not seeing the Forrest from the Trees

You will need this to install on your computer connected to the radio and install on the computer you will remote from.

And this to use on the computer you want to remote from.

Download the Instruction manual here.

Many also feel it is worthwhile to buy the RC-28 remote tuning knob to go with the remote operation. Makes tuning and PTT easier

OR if you are not partial to the Icom remote product there are other remote products, here is the manual for the Win4Icom product.

Win4Icom also allows for a trial version download, and offers 3rd party hardware and software support.

Also Remote Hams allows for remote control and it is free with signup.

I have used this product and it works pretty well.

Know also there are remote hardware devices that will take a CW paddle and interface it to your remote PC.

Note:  None of these programs or devices are going to be particularly easy to set up and make work. You need to have a very good understanding of TCP/IP networking protocols and routing and TCP/IP ports and port forwarding etc. If you don't have these skills, then you will need to enlist the help of someone who does. In other words, how good is your geek?

Since you didn't find any of these things on your own doing simple google searches, I suspect you may need some help. And you need someone to help that can devote hours to debugging and making things work smoothly. Ideally that would be you, but if not you, then you will have to have a dedicated person to assist you. That person is called a Geek.

Good luck and let us know how you get along.
