The Chinese are not anti Radio are they, if so why can't a group of Chinese hams go and activate it,

They can build scaffolding every bit as well as the last group did,

Lots of big signals from China on the radio so there is interest over there.

Might be better equipped to deal with the visiting knife wielding fishermen too!

This is strictly tongue-in-cheek, but how about someone going to 8R Guyana. As it seems the only operator there rarely QSLs. Almost impossible to get a card out of there. Could use a couple of band fills. LOL.

Yes David there is lots of places like 8R that need a good DXpedition,

We have a couple of groups in EU that knock out places in Africa like the recent TN8K, but there isn't many groups fron NA any more doing Top 100 places to quell the demand for band fills from rares Caribbean and SA stuff,

Well, ask one next time you work them on the air.  Maybe they'll tell you.

My guess is simple:  Politics.  Most of all of the various rocks in the South China Sea are, to a greater or lesser extent, under the control of the Chinese military.  Many are being built up into larger artificial islands.  Or, so say news reports I blunder into once in a while.

China very much wants to claim some sort of control / sovereign status / something over the whole thing, including Spratly but definitely everything else.

I don't personally regard China as a Western-style hegemon power.  They never really have been throughout history.

But, those things that it regards as China, such as the South China Sea, it can be that way.  It is also pretty aggressive about it.

Which means we can go whistle for this stuff for a while.

I hope you're right.  I hope some Chinese hams can thread the needle and activate these places, even during this, shall we say, muscular period in the South China Sea.

But, like YV0, I am not holding my breath.

There was a visiting ham there in Nov. 2019 (8R/AG6UT) who was very active and I even got him on 160. I agree, though, that that is one entity without a lot of activity. After that activation I only worked 8R once since (last February), and the op is not on LoTW. but pretty much every other entity in the Americas that isn't either closed down (San Felix) or only possible by a serious DXpedition (Malpelo, Clipperton, and the VP8 rare ones) have a lot of regular activity and resident hams. You'll probably be able to work them all this weekend in the contest. Suriname is the only other one that could use a good activation, but even there Ramon, PZ5RA, is quite active...although his QSLs are rather expensive. Heck, he's even renting his QTH so you can go there and activate it yourself if you want!

I don't think FT8 allows you to send such messages,  ;D

I guess someone else may field that question,

I remember 8R/AG6UT and even worked him on 10 meters. Never heard him on 160, although that is one of the bands I need to fill along with 12 and 6 meters. Worked the resident ham there on 12 but never received confirmation.

Wish a big DXpedition would go to ZD9.  Still need that one and the path should be pretty easy from my QTH.  Dom are you listening?

And wasn't there something planned for (#28) Swains Island that was postponed from last year?
Still trying, but they can't arrange for a ship to/from: https://swains2020.lldxt.eu/category/geen-categorie/

Swains has a resident population.  Maybe we can get a couple of them licensed.

Nigel G3TXF was great for places like this, he was a CW machine he would work thousands and thousands of QSO's single handed and always put on a great show where ever he turned up in the world, It's a pity he doesn't do much traveling these days,

Last big operation there was ZD9T in Dec. 2010. I cleaned 'em out 9x3, thankfully. Even two bands worth of RTTY. Fun times! There was also activity there that I worked in 2012, 2014, and 2018, but nothing since according to ClubLog. At #43 on the list, I gotta wonder how much interest it would drum up, though. That would be an expensive one to activate!

TN8K was #83 and they worked 170k QSO's

Once you turn on the Clublog leader board the DX pigs will be out to try to QRM there way to the top of the leader board, All bets are off when you need 40 slots to be in the top 100

Brilliant idea, John!  I like it.

But it (again) illustrates that this is really a two part hobby masquerading as one.

There is us, the DXers, and then there is them, the DXpeditioners and (in some cases) the Resident DX.

Our totals depend way, way too much on the latter two, not the former.

One resident operator would drop Swains from its current world-wide slot of 28 to about 66 (North Cook).  Changes we make to our stations and gear?  Zero.  New skills necessary?  None.

Guyana is one of my Least Worked Entities, with only a handful of QSO from visiting hams. I have never heard or worked the resident hams there.
Tristan da Cunha is one I have only ever worked ONCE when Michael was there as ZD9UW in 2012. When Nigel was there, he only worked VK in the first week he was there, whilst I was operating from Norfolk Island. He never listened our way again after I returned home.
The two South China Sea entities don't seem likely to see activity in the foreseeable future. The Chinese regime is occupying that region as it makes "historical claims".
I'll hold out hope yet, that we'll have the excitement of a Top 10 entity activation during the Cycle peak.
