Marion Island is just like Macquarie Island - a research base where the only amateur radio activities will be from a scientific expeditioner who is a ham.
I was fortunate to work Pierre ZS8M in 2012 on 20 m SSB. Then David was there in 2013. I see in my log that I worked David on 22 May 2013 on 17, 15, 12 and 10 m SSB, all in the space of a half hour!
Have a look at the history of David's over-wintering there with the scientific expedition. They had problems with a generator, the supply vessel had difficulty getting there, and things looked dire there for quite a few weeks, as in running out of fuel and food. It was a really serious situation.
I haven't heard anything about Marion Island, or any plans for a ham to get there since.

ZS8Z apparently ceased operations in 2017.  Is a member of LOTW and eQSL according to QRZ.com.  Cards can still be obtained, apparently.

Anyone know how many Qs they turned out?  I'm pretty active and have a pretty good spot filter.  I don't recall even seeing these guys spotted -- certainly didn't work them.  I do have ZS8 all time, which may help explain that.  Still, I should have been looking.

ZS8Z Clublog: 4,542 QSOs logged between 2013-04-15 11:47Z and 2017-11-19 09:32Z

I worked him in 2017 on 20m SSB LP in my morning. Quite weak signal as I recall. One man operation in his free time.

I worked him on 40 phone in my very early morning. He was on as "dx" on a 40 meter DX net. The net control was stateside and was very loud, sounded as though he was next door - I got in first call for the list. ZS8Z was down in the noise but we made the qso.

My understanding with KH3 is that the pier/dock areas were damaged by a hurricane back in 2017 or so, which would complicate landing there.  Much of the contamination has been buried under a concrete dome, if believed, so that is less of an issue.  They have had a couple folks living on the island for a few months at a time, monitoring for invasive species such as the "crazy ant".

A potential larger issue may be wildlife impact - when I was stationed in KH6, the buoy tender crew was not allowed to swim or snorkel in KH4 during their annual maintenance trip there because of concerns of sunscreen damage to the coral reef.

Stuff like that may make most of those KH's difficult to obtain landing approval.  Easier for someone in that position to say " NO" than to put themselves at potential risk by saying "YES".

You got any activations that actually came off?  With dates and Q counts?

I like to keep track of this stuff and finding anything other than "mega" expeditions is like pulling teeth sometimes.

Here is one resource that can be used to see some different activations for each DXCC entity:

http://hamgallery.com/qsl/country/

Of course every single activation probably won't be here, but it does give a pretty good idea of which entities were activated and when.

He has a separate page for deleted entities.

Will have a look at that, thanks.

Q counts would be next on my list, but if I have the actual call and date, it gives me something with which to start looking.

Clublog to the rescue, as always.

May not have the ZS8s, but has many others.  And their meticulous record keeping on the main site should give you all known activations and dates.

Gives the DXpedition call, date, number of QSOs (I assume if they uploaded to ClubLog only).
