Allen wrench for MFJ Hamsticks?
« on: February 16, 2023, 06:12:28 PM »

I seem to have misplaced mine. Does anyone know what size Allen wrenches are used?   Thanks!

Why don’t you just get a multi wrench sent and try them all until you get the right one. Easy.

I don't know the actual size.  A quick call to MFJ might help.  Be advised:  Don't use a wrong size or cheapie.  It may work for a while but it will erode the soft metal set screw.  The zinc plating wore off the supplied wrench and it eventually rounded the hole.  I have one that I have to use a Torx bit on now but I just snug it.  No torque

I read somewhere, maybe here on eHam, go to the hardware store and get a thumb screw. The knob style probably best. You're going to the hardware store for the wrench anyway. Good luck

News Flash. Allen key sets are sold in every box store with a tool department for cheap.

I recently bought an mfj antenna and the Allen wrench was the wrong size nearly ruined the set screw. Apparently I got sae and needed metric or vice versa. This was a 2/6 meter mag mount. I don't think mfj actually made this antenna and I doubt they actually make their hamsticks either probably chinese. Shark sell U.S. made hamstick at least they claim they do.

My MFJ Hamsticks came with 2 mm Allen wrenches.  The fit is a bit sloppy but they work (after all, you're not torquing wheel nuts at Indy!).  A 2.5 mm wrench is too big, but if you really want to, you could make one fit perfectly by carefully filing it down.  None of the SAE wrenches fit better.
