Why not ask NIST?  They are the ones that track those numbers.

The last time I saw it was today, and the first time I've ever seen it was yesterday. Posted about it in the Propagation section and someone replied, " It was taken during today's X2.2 solar flare. It's "contaminated." Beats me, this is out of my scope of knowledge about propagation.

Yeah, WWV is reporting solar flux at 343.  I have never seen a reading that high.

When you get a big blast it throws off the calibration of the devices that measure SFI. Ignore the number as it is most likely off quite a bit.

Perhaps so but have not seen this kind of prop since 58. Didn't understand all the prop stuff back then. ENJOY!

This information is from Frank  W3LPL:

The SFI measurement always takes place at exactly the specified time, even if an X-class solar flare is underway.

Occasionally the SFI is wildly high (and invalid) when the measurement takes place during a solar flare
Just ignore the SFI=343, its meaningless

2023-02-17   18:00:00   2459993.239   2267.739   165.0   161.1   145.0
2023-02-17   20:00:00   2459993.322   2267.742   343.1   335.0   301.5
2023-02-17   22:00:00   2459993.406   2267.745   182.0   177.7   160.0

The 1800Z SFI was 165
The 2000Z SFI was 343 (invalid)
The 2200Z SFI was 182

I may have the day wrong but on November 15, 1979 WWV reported a solar flux of "378 flair enhanced." Same situation as yesterday. It was a great day though as I worked 8Z4A on 15m long path from California at 0442Z for an ATNO.  :)

Had to look that one up, 8Z4A would be a new one for me too, but it's a bit too late to work it. 8Z4A That price is a bargain compared to what someone wants for it on eBay. Any of those preowned QSL cards are useless to me, but there must be a market for them. Back to the topic, hope these sunspot numbers are a sign of great propagation to come in Cycle 25. Really hope for some F2 6M propagation.

A real F2 opening on 6M is something to behold. On November 19, 2001 I came home from work to find 6M open to Japan. I was in the Bay Area. I called CQ running 100w and a 5 element yagi. I had an instant pile-up of JA's that were S9+40dB. Unbelievable! It was hard to pick out a call. I worked 37 JA's in 15 minutes-all SSB. Most of then QSL'ed.

On the 17th and 18th there were other 6M F2 openings.

November 17 - 1600Z to 1800Z - 72 east coast stations.

November 17 - 2045Z through November 18 - 0105Z - V73AT, V73UX, 3-KL7's, 17-JA's, 3-DU's, VR2XMT, XV3AA

There were a few more more smaller openings through November 24th.

I plan to have my 6M beam back up for this November and I won't low power with my KPA-1500. :)

The good news is I think we've already had some 6m F2 propagation on the southerly path. On Saturday TZ4AM was a huge signal here in G, 599 on CW,  other Africans have been in with big signals. We've had TEP too to ZS, but these stations were on our side of the equator so not TEP, and too strong for multi-hop Es. So I think it's already happening, although we need more sunspots for the East-West path to open. I'll never forget KG6DX in Guam in here S9+60dB end-stopping in March 1991, we didn't get any 6m F2 here last cycle but this one is looking much more promising.

This is a good resource for tracking the MUF https://prop.kc2g.com/

BTW, don't wait until Nov to get those 6m yagis up, there's been a lot of multi-hop Es the last few summers, I've worked CA and lots of West Coast from G in June & July, VE6 and VE7 too. Some Gs worked HI and AK last summer too.
