We were vacationing in Maine and one of my friends who lives near Boston saw my callsign plate and left a note so that we could have dinner together.
What is better than a seafood shack dinner in Maine?  A seafood shack dinner with friends!

These days, nobody knows what the hell amater radio is anyway, let alone deciphering a few letters and a number on a license plate ;).

The suffix of my call references my service as a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy. I was wearing a call sign hat one day and I had a former Navy man ask me what the "K6" meant in front of the "CPO" on my hat. He had no clue it was an amateur radio call sign until I explained it to him. I have yet to have someone ask me what the letters on my license plate mean, but I do get questions about the antenna on the roof of my vehicle. Most times people want to know if it's for CB radio.

Now there's someone out there exploiting all the paranoia surrounding having your call sign and address associated on the FCC ULS.

PO Box solves a lot of nonsense.

That said, the antennas come off the vehicles and go into the trunk or under a locked cap when I'm in questionable settings. And the control heads go in the glovebox, which is locked.

I'd be far more worried about tweakers with a Sawzall these days anyway.

In the rear window of my car, I have a vinyl sticker with my call sign in MORSE CODE.
I would be impressed if a bad guy read it, deciphered it, looked up my call and came to my house.
