Where all the ND station at
« on: February 19, 2023, 08:07:24 PM »

Hi All

So my main aim for ARRL DX CW was to close out the 3 states I need for CW WAS,

ID, MO and ND

I worked a few of ID and MO but not a single ND station was to be had, I had numerous filters set across different clusters and I didn't see one spotted,

I even had guys in my club on the hunt and only 1 guy heard a ND station,

So Where are all the ND stations hiding,

I'm hoping for more luck in closing out my Phone WAS in a few weeks I just need WY

I have Digi done from years ago when I used to do all the big RTTY tests.

Maybe digging out from all the snow they get.  Just kidding.  ND is a hard state to get.  Try seeing if they have a ND state QSO party, mark the date and look for a station.

Unfortunately you are a few years too late.   :)

I lived in North Dakota from 2013 - 2016 while working in the petroleum industry. Made just under 100,000 QSOs in 3 years all while working 80+ hour weeks. Can't say there is a single thing I miss about those days. Search YouTube for KC0W and you will see some my ND videos shot by others while I was mainly operating CW.................Here is one to get you started:

Hi Tom

I must look I should have worked you from there, I was trying to close it out using LoTW so that is why I haven't looked too closely to my log at unconfirmed QSO's

It's those damn people who don't use LoTW who screw it up for everyone else..............Guilty!!!   :)

Send an email to ND0B, he has a good station. You can email W0TF as well.

They are both very active & have more than capable stations to get the job done.

There aren't that many to start with in ND. Your best best during a contest is N7IV. Another possibility is KD4POJ.

Operating from ND during November Sweepstakes is on my ham radio bucket list, right up there with operating from a Caribbean island during a DX contest.

It's a lot of fun.  I mean, I'm not all that rare, and it's still a lot of fun!!

As KC0W can attest though, when you are always DX, sometimes it's tiring.

I've asked not to be spotted outside contest times just to have an informal qso.

Outside contest times I typically run FT8 now.  I remember living in the states and a S9 plus hash from solar on 3 sides and across the street.

If you decide to do it, shoot me an email.  Different islands have different pros and cons.

Hi Trevor, my call sign is now WS0Y, and my e-mail is good on qrz.com.  I'm sure we can work out a sked, if you still need North Dakota.  I don't have much for an antenna (110 foot doublet, open ladder line, not up very high), but it does tune up, 160-6 meters, so we should be able to make contact with some trying.
