Does anyone else have 80 meter DX window staticky noise?
« on: February 20, 2023, 05:42:41 PM »

Like the most interesting man in the world would say: I don’t always work 80 meters, but when I do, it’s in the dx window. But this season, I have been experiencing serious S9 or better static levels anywhere between 3780 and 3805….the only area I work on 80 except for the CW territory.  Has anyone else experienced suck noise there this season? Especially if ur in the Northeast, or mid Atlantic area. Let me know if u do. I realize wishing it away won’t do any good, but I really wish these noise levels would die down….

I see a K7 station cursing the OTHR most evenings here on the DX Cluster.
Might it be OTHR you hear?
I don't go near the "80 m DX Window" anymore. I used to hang out there a lot until about ten years ago. Low Bands generally have been very noisy here, as it's late summer and the storm static is epic.

That's just it Luke....it's not summer here, so the static levels should be low......the other thing is that the increased noise level is only between 3780 and 3805....anywhere else on the band, the levels are well decreased.....and I will not operate above 3800.....not enough dx (if any), and too many troublemakers for my liking......

Check above and below... I have what I call a 'grumbling static' that appears right in the DX window on 30m. (I can see it on my 991A's display.) If I tune above and below, it reappears every ninety something Khz and I find something similar on 80m. It seems to fade the further I get from the antenna's resonant tuned points. AND if I switch to a different antenna, not tuned for the band, it's still there, just much weaker. Not sure what it is, but I sure wish it would go away!

The OTHR is limited to 3810 - 3803 here.  Has been that way for a number of years.  I have excellent receive capability on 80M and hear nothing unusual currently from 3803 and down.
