GYKLOG - My app for portable logging on Android
« on: February 23, 2023, 10:23:23 AM »

Dear all,
I'm writing to let you know about GYKLOG, my app for portable logging on Android.
You can find it as a free app on Play Store: https://bit.ly/GYKLOGPlayStore.

I wanted and app to log my ham radio contacts on the phone while operating portable. That's why GYKLOG was born, but it can do more than that.
If you have a Yaesu FT-817 or FT-897 (I think FT-857 also) you can control the radio via Bluetooth. You can get your locator from GPS, lookup a callsign on QRZ, calculate distance and bearing from a locator, see how you're doing with simple statistics on QSOs. You also have a check on dupes.
GYKLOG was not born to be a logbook for your station, and is not an app I'd use in a contest if I planned to make more than a few hundreds contacts.
Other than that, I use it all the time and I hope you too will find it useful.
Logs are written in the GYKLOG folder in your phone's memory. An ADIF file is created for you to import in your preferred logging software. When contesting a generic CABRILLO file is created for you to edit on PC before the final upload.
PDF manual on https://bit.ly/IN3GYK and videos on https://bit.ly/youtubeIN3GYK .
I'll be happy to hear from you and your suggestions but please bear in mind I'm not a professional programmer.

All the best!

Installed!

I will be checking it out soon, putting the mobile station together now.

A question....  Will it export ADIF files?  That would be awesome so you could come home, send to the pc and then import to whatever program you use at home.

Looks decent with the small perusal I had this morning.

Dear Shane,
that's exactly how I use it.

Every time you log a contact, a new line is added to file Logfile.adi in folder GYKLOG on your phone's memory.
When you're done, you just have to import the file Logfile.adi wherever you like.
I do that with cqrlog on my Debian PC and on qrz for my online logbook, and I never had a problem.

If you're in a contest, and you follow the instructions on how to correctly put the exchange in the remarks field, a second
file is written in cabrillo format. That's generic, so you'll have to edit the header to suit your contest, but all contacts are there.

You only have to remember to delete those files manually before starting to log again and also to hit the "Clear QSO data" button in the app. That will make you start again from QSO n. 1 and log contacts in a new file.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you again, best regards.

OK great!  That's what needs to be done, makes it easy to interface with the home logging software.

I'll definately be giving it a shot.  Like I said, might be a few days to a week or so.  Family is here on island visiting so no radio time :( .  But I'll be back to Bachelor for ARRL DX contest next weekend :)

Okay!
I used GYKLOG last weekend for the ARRL DX CW contest and all worked well.
On my qrz page (link below) you can find the user manual for version 1.0. I should update it
for version 1.03, but it's still ok.
You can also find a link to some youtube videos, video 05 shows how to use GYKLOG
in a contest and save data also in cabrillo format. All videos are subtitled in English and
Italian.
All the best with the contest!
