Belka microradio beat Yaesu FTdX3000
« on: February 24, 2023, 04:46:55 PM »

Just got my Belka receiver. What a tiny work of art.  It works quite well, even with the whip antenna.

I'm not sure why, but in one test it hears WSM 650 AM BCB (50kw, about 500 mi away, and it was night time) but the Yaesu is all power line noise (or similar). Same random vertical long wire antenna.

Here's the video:

Power supply/line noise on the Yaesu, Belka is battery operated, so no PS noise.

I have an ASTRON RS-35A, could it be that? I can try a 12v battery hadnt thought of that. I have some big 12v batteries too...  will post results

OK, on 12 battery, house main breaker off, the Yaesu is dead quiet. I tried to isolate it by turning off circuits to no clear answer but the wife got home I will have to start again when shes out. But that partially proves NOGV suggestion.

At first when I took away the power strip power near the Yaesu and unplugged the SX28 above it, it got quiet. So maybe I can get 120vac power far enough away from the yaesu to quiet it. But something connected to my house wiring must be entering the buzz and then the whole system radiates it, I would think. The main panel is grounded to a ground rod and metal waterpipe fwiw.

Still hunting but thankful it seems to be in my own houise so I can find and fix it.\

Also, interesting the belka is unaffected. MAYBE the 12v leads from the PS to Yaesu are acting as antennas.  More testing when I can, will report result.

But it's a huge step to be able to get radio dead quiet when house power is off
