Rick, It is HALF OF A DIPOLE. The other side (shield) is grounded to the tower that is 30 foot high. I lengthened the length by 5 foot give or take and now it does not show up on my 259B analyzer.
What he has amounts to a loaded 1/4 wave sloper. IF he can some how resonate it at say 1830 khz..and Z is < 50 ohms, a simple helical hairpin across the feedpoint will increase it to 50 ohms . Then just compress / expand the coil for min swr. Then just use the tuner when going higher up the band.
Or resonate say at 1850 or 1875 khz..then use the tuner at the bottom + top ends of the band.
