MFJ949E Tuner
« on: February 25, 2023, 04:44:08 PM »

I have a MFJ949E tuner that has sat on my shelf for a few years now and I lost the 12 volt power supply. I tried THREE other 12 volt power supplies but NONE would fit! I can't tell if the OD is too big or the ID too small on the ones I tried I only know they will not fit. Did MFJ use a special PS? I tried a search on their site and did not find anything relevant. Any suggestions?

Hi Fred,

The only thing the DC supplies is a back light.  The matchbox doesn't need DC at all to function.

I have a few of them here and use them for loaners.

The manual states,
Quote from: MFJ manual

The rear panel jack accepts a 2.5 mm coaxial plug with a positive center pin polarity.

Many other devices use a 2.1 mm plug, which won't fit over
the center pin.  The 2.5 mm used to be a more common size.

I have two of the 949 units, and have never bothered to apply
DC to them.  They work just fine without it, unless you are in
a dark room and need the panel lights to read the meters.

I also have a 949E tuner . MFJ sells a DC adapter that will work although they are pricey. Luckily I had a 2.5MM plug. I put Anderson Power Ploe connectors on it and hooked it up to my power supply. Works like a charm.

Or you could use one of these.

Thanks. Just ordered it on Amazon. I usually only run my shack at night with only the sconce lights on so a light on the meter will be helpful for me.
