SB-1000 help
« on: February 26, 2023, 07:48:48 AM »

Looking for some advice on my Heathkit SB-1000. Made a few corrections and it will only load on 10, 15 and 20. 40 and 80 have little or no output and and can't load the grid with the exciter (Using Icom 7300). Nothing appears fried, burnt or smoked. Recapped power supply late last year. Please contact at dansurveil@gmail.com where we can talk and maybe contact on cell phone.

Thanks,

John

Not much information to go on.  Need to know the following.
1. Had these bands worked for you before and just stopped?
2. What is the input swr on the bands you can’t make power on?
I’m sure there are other questions  but answering these will help start things off.  Without this information any answers are just wild guesses that usually lead down rabbit holes.

Have had the amp for awhile and never used. I am the second owner. Seems to have been put together well. Replaced a few components in the power metering circuit and found and re-soldered a cap that wasn't soldered correctly on the 160 meter coil. Learning about same every day. I will fire it up later today and check. Running into a 1500 watt oil can dummy load. Using an Icom 7300 for the exciter. I am assuming (of course I could be wrong) that it was wired correctly. Just downloaded the complete manual with pictorials and will check the bandswitch/coil connections. Thanks Lou, I also put this info out on the Heahtkit amp io group as well. IF you or someone has time I would appreciate a phone call if possible...

Assuming it is wired correctly, check and see if the band switch contacts for 40 and 80 are clean and undamaged.

Fixed.....appears new coils for 160, 80 and 40 may have been installed by former owner and were not tuned properly..so tune them up I did.....loads up fine now on all bands........
