« on: February 27, 2023, 03:12:47 AM »

Cannot get my 7300 to actually transmit anything on FT8, radio shows TX but no output.  What am I missing?

I use my 7300 and FT8....I would select the audio function on the 7300 and see if you're getting audio from your computer to the 7300. You didn't mention if you had RF output in other modes like SSB or CW?? You didn't say if this is the first attempt at FT8 or if everything was working FB, then suddenly no RF output.

If it's a configuration issue, there's a lot of great information on YouTube how to set up the 7300 for digital modes.

The 7300 has a FT8 preset that should solve your problem.

Go to Menu-->2-->FT8 preset and push it.

If you don't see the preset, update your firmware.

We need much more information to solve this problem.  What is missing is the audio from the computer is not getting to the modulator of the 7300 . That can be for many different reasons. I could make assumptions all day, but need to talk to you to actually solve it. If you would like to load Anydesk which is a screen sharing program, and then give me a call we can solve the issue. Diagnosis over a forum is a long tedious process. A phone call can make things go a lot faster. Contact me and I can assist you.

I went down to the shack to chase 3B7M and had the same problem with my K3/WSJT-X setup. PTT but no tones on TX.

The clue was that my Windows PC had rebooted because of Windows updates. Sure enough: all my sound card services had been renamed. They had be numbered, like 1 Audio Codec (speaker) 2 Audio Codec (speaker) etc. but now all the numbers were gone. Had to go into WSJT-X settings and randomly try choices until audio came back.

I learned to write down my sound card settings for all my ham software, but that strategy obviously doesn't work when the update changes sound card names in Windows!

Beats me, new mode, and set all up as instructed, tested CAT, PTT buttons and works.  Fan comes on but nothing out of the radio.  As stated, may not be sending the tones to the radio.  I have CODECs set for Mic and Receiving but nothing to the radio.  Will check that Menu 2 thing.  New to me.

On the 7300 push the "Menu" button below the touch screen.

The menu screen has two pages. You can tell which page by the white "1" or "2" below the page touch buttons SCOPE, AUDIO, VOICE, etc.

If there is only one menu screen, you need to update the firmware. After updating there will be a second screen, which will have the FT8 preset on it. To get to the second screen touch the "2" at the bottom original screen. Then touch the preset. That will setup the 7300 to work with WSJT-x.

A windows update killed transmit on my 7300. The FT8 preset brought it back.

Finally got ft8 to work.  Had to install the SD card, go to page 2 to select the FT8 presets, and seems to work now.  Not easy to find that and none of the DIY youtubes mentioned the FT8 presets in the 7300.....

The normal problem with no audio on digimode is that the rig is set up for modulation on the accesory plug(s) in the back of the radio when using the USB.
There is a setting for using the USB connector as Digimode modulation source.
Check the settings menue for the item "Data Mode"  page 8.5 in this manual. https://icomuk.co.uk/files/icom/PDF/productManual/IC-7300_ENG_Basic_0.pdf
