V3 frog sounds- output on key up
« on: February 28, 2023, 03:03:47 AM »

Hi,
I built one of those cheapie frog sounds kits.
It actually functions and I've made a couple qso's at about 2 watts.
The odd thing is that when key is in up position, I still see that there's about half a watt output on my antenna tuner.
Even if I unplug the key from the frog sounds it's the same.
I've checked for solder bridges and it looks ok.
Any ideas as to what I should look for?
Tnx Patrick

I believe this radio uses a direct conversion receiver like the pixie. This means the local oscillator is running all the time. In transmit, the local oscillator is amplified by output transistor. In receive, the local oscillator mixes with the received signal to get the audio tone you hear.
Since the oscillator runs all the time, it's weak signal is there all the time.
