What is a Daniels Y206 crimp die set used for?
« on: March 03, 2023, 12:20:22 PM »

In a box of stuff I bought at a Hamfest there was a Daniels Y206 crimp die set. Just the "jaws". I have not been able to find out what these are used for, exactly what connector and/or cable one would use these with, or even exactly which model crimper they go with. Anyone know? Wondering if I could make use of it in the future or if I should sell it.

Thanks,
Keith

Looking at the Daniels Website, it looks like it fits a HX4 tool frame.

I have no idea what you would use it for, but here is its info:

Thanks Mike. Yea, that is the type of info I have been finding but nothing to say what it is used for.

I wonder if it is one of those things that was popular maybe 30 years ago but today largely made obsolete when industry moved on to different connectors? Maybe linemen or cable guys?

I bet some of the guys on this forum will  know...

Thank you gentlemen!

If it is the same as the Y206P that W3PX points to they are used for "RG-59, RG-62, RG-140, RG-210 and RG-302 coaxial cables", none of which I am familiar with directly. Online chart says RG59, RG62and RG210 are 0.242" dia while RG58 is 0.195" dia. Also looks like RG8X is 0.242" dia, so maybe it will be useful to me in the future.

Now to look for a not-too-expensive crimper for it that will also do RG8/U (with different jaws) ...

That's some pricey dies. I picked up a new set at a hamfest a few years ago for $20.00. Hate to see what the tool costs.

The crimper is the RF Industries RFA-4009-20 It can be bought at a price from $220-$350 USD.

I have the crimper, with the plastic carry case and a set of seven dies. All told it comes to almost $1200

It is a serious investment for a place or person who does lots of crimps that cannot fail. I own a set when I worked for a company that would compensate me for using my own test and installation equipment. They paid me the same rate for spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, antenna test equipment and tools that they would if they had to rent it from a commercial firm. (I could sometimes make as much as a $1000/week using my own gear but if I broke my own stuff it was on me).
