XU7GNY - Cambodia
« on: March 02, 2023, 05:37:29 AM »

Just got him on 20m FT8 F/H  14.088  on my 6th call.   ATNO for me.   Going to be there until March 9th.

A SSB Q would be great but not holding my breath.  Looks like all FT* at this point.  I am also seeing spots saying invalid license. Work first worry later.

Hope he got his landing permit paperwork all in order.  :P

Gino,

Congrats on your ATNO!

Which way was your antenna pointed? LP or SP? I think as our days are getting longer and the nights shorter, the openings to that part of the world will start to be SP at around this time. I was listening for him via the LP yesterday, but got not a single decode. This morning I was waiting for him with my antenna pointed SP and it was an easy QSO.

That's a difficult one for sure. Congrats! Got him on 17 yesterday after a lot of calling. The noise level in that part of the world is insane.

Congrats Gino and thanks for the heads up. Cambodia would be an ATNO for me so I'll be listening for him.

My 17m contact was confirmed on LoTW this morning so I think it's safe to say it's legit.

Hope his landing in Cambodia wasn't too difficult or their might be calls for the ARRL to discredit this operation.

Congrats on Cambodia! I've only got one QSO from 10+ years ago on 15cw so I'll keep watch for this one to add perhaps another band or two.

That's pretty cool. I might try 'em again on a different band and see if I can get through QRP :) Fat chance, but hey, ya never know eh?

FYI, Simon HS0ZIB, has reported 'on another ham website' that he has 'received an email from Cambodia' about the licensing situation there and he states that XU7GNY and another person operating there do not have valid ham licenses. So, buyer beware before you get too excited about working them.

No new spots since the 3rd.  Ruh Roh Raggy!      My LOTW new DXCC credit is still there.

LOTW confirmation isn’t equivalent to nor does it guarantee DXCC accreditation. It isn’t a DXCC credit in itself. Time will tell…

That is odd, he stopped broadcasting after the 4th when someone on the Cluster kept posting that his License is Expired.
It could just mean that his License Expired on the 3rd and a local got upset hearing him on the 4th.  If that is the case then contacts before the 4th should count.
I am kind of glad I already have this in the Log from back in 2015.
