In my view, we should be and encourage others including potential or new operators to be the example we would like to hear on the air. Amateur Radio is a wonderful endeavor and we shouldn't squander it by simply giving in to poor practices.

Big mouths, no ears and I didn't know my band scope could show such a wide signal.
Think I will watch a movie and try radio later.

What you are really hearing is the result of over half the urban ham population dealing with a high noise floor (S9 or higher).

All these stations don't hear the other hams for their end fed. 100 watt signal is below the noise floor at their urban location. They hear the QRO station but little else.

I call CQ with 100 watts here in the desert and maybe some one will come back to me. Call CQ with 1500 watts and I have a pileup. This is indicative of everyone's receive noise floor.

I picked my ranch location for the low noise floor(S-0). I can always take care of the out bound signal with the amplifier.

Todays hams, many times, don't have the option of a ham club and an Elmer to guide their path in ham radio.

Buy the ARRL handbook and start reading.

Don't see your points as being accurate; especially 1500 watts to receive more than maybe a call back.

All the pileups for POTA stations running 100 watts and many with end fed (endfedz).
They have pile ups for hours on end with 100 watts.

Even more so, is to listen to the QRP Stations working the POTA Stations successfully with 5 watts.

That might be the case in the North East where the population density is 50 times higher than in the South West. When I hear a POTA station they spend more time calling CQ than logging contacts.

As for QRP, it remind me of the saying that; even a blind squirrel can fine an acorn once in awhile. No mention that the contact on the other end is running a first class station with an amp, beam and a good location to make the QRP experience happen.

It seems that I've read articles by Hiram Percy Maxim ("The old man") that were written 100 years ago pissing and moaning about these same things!

We've always had "lids, kids, and K8's", propagation, high power, low power, wide signals and the other dozen annoying things to contend with since the beginning of wireless.

I was going to suggest just dealing with it or get out.  Find another hobby.  But I also recall seeing this suggestion in print 67 years ago.

His actual quote was: "Can we all get along?"
