Getting the FTDXRC Client/Server to Communicate
« on: March 08, 2023, 10:31:29 PM »

The FTDXRC radio control software (designed for the FTDX-5000, FT-2000 & FT-950) works GREAT locally.
My problem is attempting to connect the Client application in my Alameda location with the Server application @W7AYT.
The client allows me to specify an IP address.  The message says to Check the box on the remote entry and Click OK.
When I do that, nothing happens.  When I come back to that screen, the entry is again UNCHECKED.
I have added input/output firewall entries on both computers.
Has anyone successfully connected an FTDXRC Client in one location with an FTDXRC Server in another?
What obvious thing(s) am I missing?
Curiously,

P.S. I wanted to attach a .JPG pic showing BOTH Client/Server screens, but don't know how to do that here.

Ron, while I don't have experience of the FTDXRC software, one issue that is becoming more common is that many ISPs are running out of IPv4 addresses and have introduced carrier grade NAT (CG NAT), together with blocking many incoming ports. It can completely stop home users running a server/client setup.

One workaround that a friend uses it to run a VPN to link his remote site with his home (and vice versa), so that he can monitor the holiday home from his main home and equally run his home radio gear from his holiday home. He uses Raspberry Pi computers for the VPN.

While it currently doesn't include Yaesu gear, and has a monthly charge, Remote TX is one solution for remote operating that does away with the need to mess around with dedicated IP addresses and opening ports, etc. See https://remotetx.net/

Yes, using a VPN is a GooD idea - I use VNC Viewer to remote into NX6T and the K3/0 to run the radio.
VNC gives access to the Windoze-7 laptop screen at the location I want to remotely run the the FT-2000.
For running the IP-Sound software (before I realized FTDXRC has its own audio CODECS),
I use LogMeIn Hamachi.  Hamachi makes the sound connection possible.
How do I direct the FTDXRC software through one of these.

I seem to have solved the problem.
I have been using the LogMeIn Hamachi VPN to provide a "tunnel" for IP-Sound.
Changing the FTDXRC Server IP-address to the one used by Hamachi, everything connected thru.
