I really don't understand this thread.  POTA and all the other variations of this sport means ACTIVITY!

The last 3 times I was on 20m CW I heard about 5 signals each time, from 14.0 to 14.150!  I remember when it was bedlam on this portion of the band.

It appears to me the present ham activity takes place on eHam.com, bitching about SOMETHING!

I keep having flashbacks to basic training; standing in the cold, driving rain or wallowing in the mud, and our DI yelling, "Is everybody happy?"  There wasn't anyone happy there. Or here!

I've heard for almost 70 years that no activity equals no frequencies.  Wake up people.

They're all on FT8 now. An absolute ton of activity on those frequencies.

Agree, it's a very good thing and I enjoy talking with people. If I didn't I'd do FT8.

Don't know, but I just got off the air (14.237) with CE3WB in Santiago, Chili. He uses a rotatable dipole.

And he was working you while you were at a park??
??????
100 watts and an Endfedz EF-20 on my end.

OK, I know this topic has wandered, but it recently was about the antenna(s) that home stations use to work weak portables in the field, like at POTA listed parks.

So you worked a guy in Chile with a rotatable dipole, and you used an Endfedz EF-20.  Were EITHER of you portable at a park ???????

If you are 100 feet above see level and have your 150 foot tower you are 250 feet total. If you're at 580 feet above sea level with a wire 20 feet in the air your antenna is at 600 feet. It's like me being at your location with a 500 foot tower.

What??  That isn't how it works :-)  That's why people use terrain analysis software.

What matters is how high your antenna is above the SURROUNDING ground and objects, not what your absolute altitude above sea level is.

Why are you changing the topic of my question?  The comment was about people at home, with good antennas, working weak people at parks.  You never answered my question if YOU or the Chile guy were at a park, and the next comment is about altitude above sea level?  What the ...

Huh..??
So if you're at Sea Level and there is no terrain above you across the sea in one direction, you are better off than being on top of Mt. Washington??
Okay 👌👌🆗

You aren't making much sense, especially since you're own QRZ page has you noting a PARK with 7300' ELEVATION.
Anyways I am going to work some Parks...

Troll on Sir...

Okay 👌👌🆗
Did you spend too much on your station and end up with mediocre results??
I don't know what made you think POTA stations use towers in the first place.
You aren't making much sense.
Maybe Google Parks On The Air and you can research whatever it is you are trying to accomplish and report back.
Anyways I am going to work some Parks...

OK, now I can see why people don't engage in discussions with you..  Completely nonsensical replies :-(

Have fun...

Oh nice tactic.. "People"
Hmmm... People engage in conversations with me all the time. Especially on the Air.
I feel you are the nonsensical one with your nonsense in this hijacked thread.

Back to having more fun 😊
