This evening I was one of the lucky few NA stations that were able to work 5A1AL in the few minutes he was on 60m FT8 (yes, yes I know... the dreaded mode). I knew that Libya was pretty rare, but until I started digging around on ClubLog, I was unaware of just how rare Libya seems to be in North America these days.
According to ClubLog, only 207 QSOs were made between Libya and North America last year (15 to the West Coast). In 2021, an even fewer 68 NA QSOs were made (zero West Coast). In 2020, that number was a mere 45. As far back as ClubLog's charts go, it looks like the only significant activity occurred in 2006 when I was but a wee little nerdlett of 4 years old

I have an even greater appreciation for my 17m and 60m QSOs with 5A1AL now! But that got me thinking -- just how rare is a Libya-NA QSO on 60m specifically? And from what I can gather, it is extremely rare. Looking back through all spots for Libya on 60m returns no NA spots at all until tonight. It seems that most 60m activity occurred before the band was really open to NA. So, from what I can gather, I am likely one of a very few NA stations that have Libya in the log on 60m. Yes, I know that 60m does not count for much, but nonetheless, I find that to be very cool!
