Wanted Ads On QRZ
« on: December 15, 2022, 03:58:15 PM »

Sometimes I think I only place these ads so I can see how many scammers respond.

The usual asking for a phone number, Call Sign and stating my payment terms clears the smoke fast and they never respond.

I always want to add under my name.... Agent FBI District Supervisor Criminal Fraud Division for laughs, but usually just asking for the above 2 items makes them run.

It's really very sad.

And YES I know all the warnings and caveats. To date I have had one legitimate responder.

QRZ is a cesspool. I bailed out of there about six months because of the way one of the moderators handled a complaint of mine. He basically threw it on someone else, even though it was his responsibility. I even had them pull my call sign from their database.

Just don’t do business on the internet and you won’t have any problems, very simple, even I can understand that.

What's the process for removing a call sign, or who do I contact?

I never made an account over there, wonder how they would verify who is requesting the call be removed.

ULS has my info, no reason to have it on qrz.

I have sold things on QRZ, eBay and QTH, all without issues. I have also bought items, same again.
I wouldn't even think about listing a WTB anywhere. You're just asking for problems. Dumb idea IMHO.

Sometimes Foolish.............But NEVER Dumb ;D

Today's seller went right down to the wire on my payment, then changed it to cash app or Zelle from my original PayPal G&S ONLY post.

Great for comic relief.

I've bought and sold on QRZ, eHam, QTH, and eBay for years, at least 20. Never had one problem from a buyer or seller. Common sense prevails. But I do not and never have posted WTB ads. Again, common sense prevails.

Yep, that would solve LOTS of internet problems for sure.  Just like 'n social media - never had a problem with it.... never had a FB acct either :)

I actually got my current radio for a good price from a WTB ad I placed.  I did my homework, though, checking out the seller on-line and made him send me a couple of pictures of the radio.  Also used Paypal Goods and Services.  Won't use Friends and Family unless it is a ham I trust and who is really a friend of mine.  Won't use Zelle or Venmo either since there is no protection with them-nor is there with postal money orders or checks.

I only use PayPal G&S, and try to get a feeling of who I'm dealing with, and believe if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.  So far, so good, both buying and selling.  Here on the West coast, there is a weekend swap that has been running on 7.240 for more than 40 years.  Nobody is trying to get rich, just sort of trading gear around.  It's my go to for buying and selling.
