D67AA - COMOROS
« on: March 10, 2023, 05:54:55 PM »

From now till March 22, JF1OCQ will be QRV from Comoros as D67AA.

https://www.qrz.com/db/D67AA

He started about an hour ago on 18.107 FT8 and now he just switched to 14.087 FT8.

His QRZ .com page reads "F/H", but I've seen him completing MANY QSOs with stations well above +1000 and I also worked him without enabling Fox/Hound mode so this is definitely not "F/H". It seems to me that many people, including many DXpeditioners, have a different definition of Fox/Hound.  ;D ;D ;D

Surely no one needs D6 at this stage there has been so many operations from there over the last few years??

Could use it for a 2023 Marathon point and would love to work them on 160, but otherwise I agree with you. Hardly rare these days.

I could still use them on 80m and 10m, as well as on SSB.

Definitely a couple of band fills needed. 160 or 6 would be really nice.. otherwise I have a couple of other bands I could use.

Was there not activity from D6 already this year? maybe I am mixing it up with another entity,

I'm  sure he will be kept busy by the same people that work the same entities on the same band modes over and over when they are active,

For an ATNO?  Probably not.

But, there are plenty of goals beyond that one.  Get them on CW, SSB, Digital if you don't have all three.  New bands.  Even DX Marathon is a target now that it is on.

The nice thing about DXing is that unless you are around DXCC 3200, it is likely that a D6, and places like it, give us all something to shoot for.

I think a lot more of us would pack it in if this wasn't so.  W9KNI wrote about this -- it is no doubt a major reason he founded the DX Marathon.

Do a rent-a-shack at P4 or V3 or VP5 -- some place that is "on" for every contest.  I guarantee you'll raise pileups without end.  It isn't all for drill, either.

I don't believe so. My log shows D60AE in 2022, D60AD/D60AC in 2021, and D60AB in 2020. Looking at the cluster, all I see for 2023 is D67AA.

Well so far there's not much heard from them in the U.S. or Canada. Most of the spots are European.

I believe many of us got D6 bands in 2001. The team of D68BT and D68WL was there in January, and the big DXpedition of D69C followed them in February. Despite being preceded by another team, they set a record at the time with 168695 Qs. This was between the two peaks of Cycle 23, and propagation was so good on the high bands, I worked them on 10M FM.

Some here are saying they still need 160M, and I'm one of them. When D68C was on, only 134 in North America worked them on 160. I was on a dipole at the time, and that was also my receiving antenna. Don't know if I could have worked them with my present setup, but sure would like to work someone there on that band. The lowest band I've seen D67AA spotted on so far is 40M. According to QRZ, this op has plans to work 160 on both CW and FT8. I've worked 5 African stations on 160M in the month of March. (Algeria, Mauritania, Niger, Rep of Congo, and Ivory Coast) And I worked Saudi Arabia on 160 CW on Mar 18, 2014. So maybe there's a possibility and some hope. Don't know what his noise level is, and if he can even hear on 160, but will sure keep watching.

D68CCC in 2019 got me 160m cw.

D60AE last year got me the last band needed, 10m ssb.

Doubt I'll hear D6 on 6m.

Conditions on 6 have been exceptionally good.  Working T/E to South American nightly lately.  Never did that in March before.

Even heard ZL and LU at the same time on 6.

Doesn't mean we'll get D6, but I would not rate it as impossible.

I could hear ZD7 today on 6M.
I would not give up hope on D6.
