Dentron AL82 0n 10 Meters
« on: March 14, 2023, 04:30:04 PM »

I am using a Dentron AL-82 and finally getting around to wanting to operate on 10M with it.
I understand there is an easy mod to do, cut a wire.  Anybody guide me on doing this.

The only AL-82 that I'm aware of is the Ameritron AL-82 (which I have) that uses two 3-500Z's. In the instruction manual insert for the 10 meter mod, it says to remove the cover (with the amp unplugged of course and the caps discharged) then locate the rear panel pc board. Locate the green wire that is connected from the pc board to the 10 meter input coil and cut the wire. I also taped back the ends of the wires just to be safe. Then replace the cover.
That's per Ameritron's manual...............

John, AE9DX,

I checked with DX Engineering, where I bought the AL-82,  the green wire to be cut on the AL-82 is
in the front at the band switch.

Cutting the green wire at the rear PC board to the 10M coil applies to the AL-80B, AL-811 & AL-572.

I will perform this difficult mod  "grin"  this weekend.

:)I think there was a connection between Dentron and Ameritron going way back..
As far as I recall (From Memory) Dentron designed the AL-80, so when Dentron packed it in, and Ameritron got off the ground, the AL-80A was re-engineered by Tom Rauch from the Original Dennis Had design.
The old Table Top Dentrons were cool looking amps for sure.
Given an available ceramic tube update and input networks they would still be selling well.
