DXing in 2022
« on: March 17, 2023, 12:36:26 PM »

I wonder how everyone did on their DX goals in 2022, now that Cycle 25 has started to really get going.  No ATNO here, but did get quite a few new band and mode countries.

New Digital: GU, HS, HV, HZ, JW, SV5, XT, Z2, 5R, 9J, 9K, 9M6

NEW BAND COUNTRIES:
60: A3, FG, FO/A, HH, KH2, PJ5, SM, TU, V5, YN
40: FO/A, TL, TY
30: GM, TL, TY
17: BY, HS, HZ, TR, UN7, VR2, Z6, 7X
15: HV, J2, Z6
12: BV, BY, D2, P2, TY, 4U1UN, 5V, 5Z
10: C3, 5V
6: CE, PJ4 PLUS 26 NEW GRIDS (INCLUDING EL58)
SAT: EA, GI, HR, PJ5, VP2E PLUS 46 NEW GRIDS (INCLUDING DM02)

Not a bad year, and 2023 is off to a pretty good start so far (3 new band countries on 40 already)!

In 2023, I already have CW QSO with 50 countries on 28MHz on 100 W and GP only ...

Funny you should ask this question because I was looking at these statistics just last night! My activity in 2022 came in bursts with several months of little to no QSOs.

In 2022 my ATNOs were: HS, 3XA, VR, 5N, 9N, DU, EP, FW, 5A, YI, 9V, 9M6, P2, 9M2, VK0M, ZL7, J2, A3, T33, FT5/W

In 2023 my ATNOs have been: ET, VK9C, 3B7 (CY0 will soon be my 4th... Also still need a few fairly common entities such as XV, XX9, V8, and 4W)

In 2022, the number of new band-countries worked is as follows (I was not chasing these as seriously last year as I am this year:
80m: 13
60m: 27
40m: 25
30m: 31
20m: 20
17m: 17
15m: 38
12m: 27
10m: 37

And new band-countries so far in 2023:
80m: 7
60m: 14
40m: 14
30m: 14
20m: 5
17m: 7
15m: 9
12m: 16
10m: 23

And lastly for reference, here are my overall number of DXCCs worked. All worked with, as per usual, 100w and wires from my home QTH since July, 2016:

160m: 1
80m: 124
60m: 126
40m: 215
30m: 199
20m: 251
17m: 217
15m: 222
12m: 152
10m: 164
6m: 5

Total band slots: 1,678
Total DXCCs mixed: 277
Total DXCCs SSB: 183
(can you tell I don't do much phone?   ;D)
Total DXCCs CW: 221
Total DXCCs DIGI: 264

My dxing in 2022 came with high's & low's, first found out I got slaughtered
in the 2021 Dx Marathon, then was out to a good start in 2022...then

First I lost my ant/twr in a storm, rebuilt & got back on the air in Oct...then
worked EP2MRK for ATNO #337/QRP after 29 yr's of trying, lastly, winning the
Dx Marathon 5 watt category with only 6 month's of operating time, what a year!!! Dan WG5G

2022 was an interesting year. I finally earned my 6m DXCC (10B-DXCC as a result), I hit 850 6m VUCC grids, and WAZ on 6m and 160 at the entry level for each. The capper was DXCC #337 with Crozet in late December. Aside from those achievements I don't think I got anything else needed on main HF bands, and Topband was kinda lame. Here's hoping for a great 2023.

Night gathers and now my watch begins. It shall not end until I reach Top of the Honor Roll

Great times are at hand, and soon there will be DX for all—although more for some than for others.

I don't know about 2022, but I reached 2000 DXCC Challenge in November 2021... then last month I worked Cocos-Keeling for my 300th Mixed DXCC as well as Hawai'i on 6m which was my 49th state on that band AND made me eligible for the 50 MHZ endorsement to give me 10 band WAC. (Need Alaska on 6m... OK on 10m and HI on 160m for 10 Band WAS.)

My brag is that I have done all this with never more than 100 watts and no antenna above 30 feet.  8)

DX is.

3000! Wow, I regret not chasing band countries the first 25 years of dxing.  I just tried to work one and moved on unless it was convenient.  So here I am at 318 and 1300 slots......Like a body builder who skips leg day....

I added a bunch of new band-countries (no idea the exact number.. wasn't exactly keeping track.. but my challenge # was over 1800 by the end of the year)

I added like 24 countries on 6m to bring my grand total up to 88 (really hoping to hit 100 this year!)
I heard enough on 6m that I couldn't quite work (yet) that had I worked them I would have been over 100 (I've upgraded the antenna this year, so hopefully that'll push me over..)

I added an ATNO, #319, Crozet

Oh and almost forgot - filled in a few more zones toward 5-band... now up to 177 I think.

All in all.. pretty satisfied with how 2022 went for radio / dxing

3000!

If you are referring to me that was TWO thousand... and three HUNDRED Mixed, not Challenge. Sorry for any confusion.

Wow... 88! Must be a lot of EU & AF. That was a lot easier for me when I was in NC, but it was all CW & SSB, so I am only up to 68. And I'm only up to 169 on 5BWAZ...  On both, good job!

Oh, that made me laugh out loud, for real!  ;D

I improved by 81 on the DXCC Challenge in 2022.

That was a very good year.

33 so far in 2023, which (if it continues) will be even better.  Cleaning up on 12 and 10 while the sunspots are up.

Thanks!! Definitely a bunch of EU, a small bit of AF, a bunch of SA & Carribbean. Of what I've heard and didn't work, a fair amount of EU's, some middle east, a few JA's and KH's but while I did get a reply from JA - didn't complete the QSO.

Much of those 88.. I'd say 50 were CW.. but as time has gone on most new ones are now on FT8. I've only been chasing DX on 6 for maybe the last 10 or 12 years. I'm curious to see what this season brings. I've got my eyes on the Sable Island dxpedition as that's one I haven't worked yet on 6. Keep chasing! It's such a fun band.

Oh, I got a 3 element 6m beam up because I saw Sable is coming... I need them on 6m, 10m and on digital of all things. I have 160-12m from working them in NC, but never managed 10m. And 6m meters would be SO sweet!
