Yaesu FTDX-10 - MacBook/Bootcamp/Windows issue
« on: March 21, 2023, 11:27:33 AM »

So I'm an Apple fanboy - I had to use Windows when I was working and hated it.  Everything at home has been Macbooks for the past 15 years.  I set up my laptop to run Windows under Bootcamp on the MacOS and it works perfectly...or as well as Windows can work...  It runs Winlink, FLDigi, WSJT-X and all the other Windows programs that I use for the radio.  So far, so good....until the day before yesterday.

The computer refused to start up, it would just sit there with a blank white screen and nothing happened.  I ended up wiping the computer and reinstalling MacOS, Bootcamp and Windows three times.  It's working again.  Until this morning when I got the blank white screen again.

Then I started thinking.  I just got my Yaesu FTDX-10 on Thursday.  I uploaded the virtual COM port driver that Yaesu said to and installed it, got the radio settings all correct on the radio and all the programs that need the settings and it worked great.  The computer CAT control worked as advertised (much to my surprise, I didn't know the DX-10 would do that...happy camper here) until I tried to restart the computer and got the white screen again.  So I unplugged the USB cable from the radio to the computer and the computer fires right up and boots into Windows every time.  The radio is shut off, the power supply to the radio is shut off but if I leave the USB from the radio plugged into the Mac it just hangs.  It's not a big issue, I'll just unplug the USB every time I want to start the laptop but I was curious if anyone else found the same issue using a DX-10 on a Macbook with Bootcamp/Windows.  And if you did, did you find a way to correct whatever the problem is so that the computer will boot into Windows with the USB plugged in?

Something else I just noticed.  When I start the computer with the radio USB unplugged, then plug it in after the computer is running it loads the codec input and output for the radio.  But, when I go to any of the programs that use the audio input/output like Winlink or WSJTX I have to go back into settings and reapply the audio settings.  Not sure if that's got something to do with it or not.
