"Artificial Grounds"
« on: June 23, 2002, 02:50:55 PM »

I live in a condo and am thinking about an artificial ground, such as the MFJ-931 or the Ten Tec Artificial Ground kit. Does anyone have any experience/opinions on these?

Also,if I ground to the screw in the electrical plate, exactly what type of wire should I use?

A good electrical ground is of course very important - if you have an access panel to your plumbing you might be able to use a hose clamp on the cold water pipe and make a run of heavy copper wire to your rig (if its sufficiently close to your rig. I got lucky - the access panel for the tub is in the bedroom where I keep my rig).

You also need a good RF ground. Having a good electrical ground isnt necessarily the same thing. that's where an artificial ground may help. You didn't mention what you're using for an antenna... what is the situation there?
