Using Mac DIN-to-DB9 Serial connector for ICOM 280
« on: September 22, 2002, 12:39:35 AM »

I recently bought a serial HotSync cradle for my Handspring Visor PDA. An extra accessory in the box was a short adaptor cable for connecting the DB9 Serial plug on the end of the cradle's cable to a Macintosh computer.

This Mac plug seems to be a Mini DIN that matches the connector on the back of the ICOM 2800 (and presumably other rigs as well).

My question is, can I use this adaptor as is, without rewiring, to run APRS with either a serial-ported notebook PC, or even my Visor with a serial modem cable and the PocketAPRS program? I understand that I cannot use the serial HotSync cradle unless I also use a Null Modem adaptor.
