G'day, Some of you may know me, I am Glen Tate VE7SDX, I am a Coordinator with the Victoria Emergency Program, Auxiliary Communications Service and also have a Internet discussion list on the topic of Auxiliary / Public service communications.
I started this Internet discussion list for people in Canada and more Specifically BC then the Vancouver Island as most of the member of my list are in the Vancouver Island region.
The problem is no one seem to be talking and there are to many lists on this topic around the Internet hence on many lists not much talking going on, I know as I am on over ten of these "discussion lists".
What my suggestion is and reason for this email, why not lets make this list "the" regional list for all of BC for general discussion and exchange of ideas on the topic of Emergency / Auxiliary communications with a larger Canadian theme.
I know there are many dedicated people in my area of Southern Vancouver Island alone that have good ideas and a wealth of information to share on this diverse topic but we are not communicating and being that is our "business and hobby" it seems strange to me.
So I will go over a few things about email lists in case anyone has questions;
1: By subscribing to this list your email address will never be used for anything other then the purposes of communicating with the list.
2: I personally do not keep a list of and NEVER give out anyones email address ever!
3: If you are worried about having you "Private email address" viewable by others why not sign up for a @rac.ca email forwarding account? Go here to find out more
http://www.rac.ca/alias.htm4: Spam on this list is "almost zero" I say almost as sometimes SPAM will slip through, but I must approve all "membership applications" before one can post to the group this helps keep the group
"on topic" and if someone posting off topic they are banned IE they can not post using their email account, while this is not perfect is keeps as I said SPAM to almost nil.
5: If you are worries about to much mail you can set your account to "Digest mode" so you will get the daily posts all in one email so, no worries.
Or you can even just read the messages on the lists web page and also post from the web page so you have the most security and freedom to chose what you want to read / post and reply to.
6: The most important for many ** No attachments are allowed on this list ** so no viruses can not get through from this list to your computer.
So lets start talking and I hope this clears up some of the questions about email lists for many of you, I have been running many for years some with over 600 people if you have any other questions please drop me a note.
