 I am having a problem with this, and hope someone may be able to help with it.
 The unit powers up fine, but after waiting the alloted time to apply current to the plate, something is not right. When the plate switch is turned to the proper position, there appears to be a power drain; the lights dim, and the plate reads 100ma vs the 290 it should read.
 I have the manual and the schematics for this, although I will admit I am not very skilled at reading them. I was thinking perhaps a dirty or malfunctioning relay, but would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry; I phrased that wrong. The plate current indicates 1000 volts, instead of the 2900 volts it was showing. The manual allows for 3000 volts +/_ 105, so I was well within the parameters initially...possibly a voltage regulator???

What's your call and location?  Might be able to provide some on-site help...

There's no voltage regulator on the 2900Vdc power supply in the NCX-1000.

1000V or 2900V isn't current, it's voltage.

If it's truly only 1000V instead of 2.9kV, sounds like a rectifier or filter failure, or both, or possibly a transformer failure.

Again, this is *not* a regulated source.

Gee Mark you've got a short. From the way your question is phrased, I doubt you have any experience troubleshooting or knowledge of this unit. Since you don't list an amateur license can you legally operate it? The voltages inside this unit are LETHAL! and unforgiving. I suggest you locate someone with the necessary knowledge and skill to repair this amp and if you don't have a license, please get one before operating it.

Thank you Allan;
 I replied via email as well...I did manage to find someone rather local that has way more experience than I, and plan to take it to him later this week. (Shipping would be a small fortune.)
 I look forward to testing after the first of the year, and paying my dues as a newbie.
 I sincerely thank you for the help!
