I went despite the fact that it's a five hour drive from where I live in North Carolina. I'd heard Charleston was a really good hamfest, I had some rigs I wanted to sell, and I decided to go.
Was it worth the drive? YES! Charleston is a smallish fest but it was filled with ham gear. Not huge amounts of computers and a few radios, but radios and accessories of every description and price, from boat anchors to one dealer (The Ham Station from up in Indiana) with new toys. People were buying and selling ham gear, not kicking tires and trying to pawn off their old 286 on someone who doesn't know any better.
Charleston reminded me of hamfests the way they were 20 years ago when I first got into the hobby.
