As a beginner, I have decided to build the CW modulator for HT's that is described in the "Hints & Kinks" ARRL publication. I figure as long as it runs on 9 volts, I'm less likely to electrocute someone!!
This project will be used to send modulated CW tones thru the HT to help me practice with a weekly net here in Chicago. The radio is a Yaesu VX-5 and I have the programming software and cables.
Here's the question: Does anyone know if the programming cable (which includes the 4 segment converter "doo-dad") will work as a link between this CW box and the radio? I was contemplating the use of a serial port connection to make the connection a snap, but I'm not sure if that would be compatible. Has anyone used that cable for similar purposes?
This, by the way, is my first stab at building something. If I learn anything, I may build something else. The 2 meter brick amp looks interesting, but we'll see what happens here first!!
Any other advice for a novice is also very much welcome. It could save a life!
Thx and 73's
Steve
