40 Meters on/off limits???
« on: November 05, 2000, 10:04:31 AM »

I'm working towards general. I see the general portion of 40 meters is 7.225 to 7.300 phone. The question I have is about the dx phone portion that uses split operation...7.025 to 7.100. Are generals allowed to use this dx window since it rests in the allowed CW portion of band, or is the 40 meter dx window limited to advanced/extra class? Thanx, John

Hi, the way that I have seen this split work is that the DX station will xmit in the 7.025-7.100 portion of the band on phone and you will listen to him there.  He will listen to you at 7.225-7.300.  It is a huge split, but it is pretty common.  So, you may listen anywhere you want on the 40m band.  In this region, we cannot xmit phone between 7.000 and 7.150, but the DX station is allowed to do so.  He does this split for just that reason, so the pileup will not be on his xmit frequency.
