VE3/M0MJH?
« on: October 30, 2006, 04:18:38 AM »

Hi,

I am hopefully going to be going over to Fort Erie, Canada (near Niagra Falls), next March for a week or two and was wondering about operating radio whilst over there. What do I need to know? As far as I can see, I would just need to add 'VE3/' to the beginning of my full UK callsign (M0MJH). Is this correct? I have already looked on the internet and the information I found was a little sketchy about it. Also, would anyone be able to provide a list of repeaters in the area?

Cheers

You are correct with the VE3 prefix on your callsign. You also You also ID your location, so when you ID, say like "VE3/M0MJH in Fort Erie, Ontario".

Niagara Peninsula Amateur Radio I know has some repeaters in the Niagara Region: http://nparc.on.ca/www/n1_0_1.d/sysmap.html

If your going up to Toronto at some point, there's plenty of good ones up there too and if you need help at all, I can give you a name of a good amateur radio operator in Toronto who can help you with that.

Have fun!

Good luck on your trip to VE/A land!

If you can make it to Toronto but don't have a lot of time, in my opinion the ONE place to go is the CN tower.

You can go to the regular observation level, then take another (more $$) elevator to the very top of the concrete, Sky Pod, where the big tower starts. At that point you are 1,465 ft up.

The view is amazing, especially if you arrive before sunset and then watch the sun go down and the lights come out all over the city. On a clear day you can see the mist from Niagara falls. Take your binoculars and HT, and have some fun!

Lots of info at http://www.cntower.ca/
