Any ops at KA2NY Yokosuka or KA5MC Iwakuni in 60s
« on: April 21, 2007, 06:12:29 PM »

I would love to hear from anyone who, in the 1960's, operated the MARS/Ham stations at (KA2NY) Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan or at (KA5MC) MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.  I was at Yokosuka during 1965-1968 and at Iwakuni during 1963-1965.

Hi Bob, I guess you replaced me at Iwakuni.  I ran the station from July of 1962 until August of 1963.

I wasn't the op at KA2NY but I knew the operator there then. I lived across the street from the EM club on base and was stationed at the Ship Repair Facility at Yokosuka from 1970 to 1974 as a Chief Radioman in charge of their Crypto Repair Facility.  My call sign was KA2AI.....in fact, I just submitted a change with the FCC to get KA2AI as a Vanity Callsign this week.  I ended up retiring from the Navy in 1974 while aboard SSBN-633 (Blue).

Hi Bob,
This is Joel again. I had the years wrong.  I was at Iwakuni from July 1963 until August 1964.  Maybe we crossed paths.  My partner at the station was Mike SanJulian.
