MARS and phone patches
« on: February 14, 2006, 02:41:46 AM »

Does MARS still provide phone patches between families? I am asking because I just purchased an elderly Kenwood that is arriving with a Kenwood phone patch. I know I will never use it and so would like to offer it to a very active MARS operator for the cost of mailing. That is, of course, if it would be useful. You might let me know. However, it would be six weeks or so before I could get it mailed.

That is a generous offer.

The phone patch activity has dropped off considerably with the explosion of eMail and very cheap long distance service, althought there a some stations that still maintain the capability.

Hopefully someone will take you up on your offer.

Still have it but won't be able to send it until early April. Drop a line after April 1.

I was 1st AACS so it is yours. Ran some phone patches on a Pacific SSB net. Not MARS.

No guarantees though. You get it untested plus a bill for USPS. I probably have an old cardbox box and some bubble pack somewhere. Like I said, it will be a few weeks or so.

Yes, the Air Force MARS Phone Patch Net is still active, and still runs a considerable volume of traffic.
