A NEW WAY FORWARD
« on: August 22, 2006, 08:48:08 AM »

I was just at the HAMFEST in Huntsville, AL and as a MARS member attended the MARS meeting. One of the things that keeps coming up is Digital Message handling. Now don't get me wrong I do think it is faster than Voice but the comment made was that voice would go the way of CW and be used as secondary communications does strike me as hard to live with. We are after all communicators we use to be able to tell who was on CW Nets by there Fist and you got to know the person the same is with Voice I can connect to the person on the other End. It seems to me when we go all Digital some of that will be lost. I may be wrong I am sure that was said when the CW nets were placed in a backup and the closed all together. Am I running Digital YES After all we all need to change or we Rot in the past but I still like to hear the person on the other end.

Voice will never quite go away just because we use it every day.  A digital standard to handle voice and data at the same time is likely in the near future.  We already have digital tactical HF radios like the AN/PRC-150 and the AN/PRC-152
