Dentron GLA-1000 - Re-Tube?
« on: June 10, 2003, 07:12:30 PM »

Took a chance on a Dentron GLA-1000B, yep, sweep tubes are bad.  Paid $250.  Looks like new 6LQ6's are about $50.00 each.  Used SB200 is also about $200.00.  So, do I spend $200 on another unknown amp or spend $200 more on tubes and know what I have? I'm not opposed to making it a project with Russian tubes, but don't want to end up with a $400 non-working project amp.  Advice would be appreciated.

I find new 6lq6's for a lot less than that on Ebay.  Some folks sell them there and guarentee them too.  I think you can also use 6je6 and 6mj6 's also.  I don't remember at the moment but the 3 are interchangable, me thinks.  do a search for them on ebay.

I highly recommend the conversion to the GI7B or the EL-509/6KG6 tubes.  I prefer the GI7B myself but the EL-509's (russian sweep tubes) work ok to.  Both are Russian military surplus tubes and are excellent for conversion in any Dentron GLA-1000 series amplifier.

Look on my web site:

Look on the N2DX web site as well.
