I was wondering if the make a 12v antenna rotor? I am wanting to get a 2M/70cm mobile later and build some kind of small beam antenna.. Thought it would be neat and would extend my talking distance when i start ham..

Most people start a ham by putting it into the oven. I believe you mean when you get your amateur license.

While you can certainly build a 2 meter and/or 440 beam, there are so many of them for sale used, you'd save money by buying one used. That said, using a beam mobile in motion can be done, and you'd be far from the first. The problem is, antenna rotor motors are almost always AC, so adapting one is a little difficult.

The last one I saw was adapted from a windshield wiper motor, and worked quite well. The beam was an 11 element 2 meter unit, in horizontal position for SSB work. If you're interested, I suggest www.allelectronics.com. They sell the WW motor, cheap. The rest of it you have to design.

Thanks alot for the info.. I have some BIG copper wire or could use copper pipe and i may have what i need on hand besides the motor.. I knew about
allelectronics.com .. Didn't know they sold the motors though.. Thanks

They used to make some small 12VDC antenna rotors for the RV people.

An easier solution may be to get a small 12VDC to 120VAC inverter to power one of the more popular AC rotors.

I have a 12V rotator but it is probably WAY more than you need. See www.alfaradio.ca for the AlfaSpid Rotator. This is the only rotator I found that did not need some sort of inverter. I use this to turn a 2 element SteppIR HF beam on my truck. (Non-moving of course!)
