Looking for Mod for Kenwood MC-53DM mic.
« on: December 25, 2000, 07:08:28 PM »

I have a Kenwood 732A that I replaced the stock mic with the newer backlit MC-53DM mic.  This mic takes an extrordinary amount of pressure to hold the PTT in and often becomes unkeyed while in a QSO.  I heard there is a mod for this mic to make the PTT respond to a lighter touch.  I've searched some of the usual places including Kenwood's application notes and have not found any information.  If someone knows how to fix this mic, the help would be much appreciated.  thanks,  n0tyz@arrl.net

hi,

Check out QST, go back a few issues and
there was a hint/kink story I believe
on a mod to the mike.

Basicly you remove the foam pads inside the
mike and add a small setscrew to the plastic
ptt arm.  That will give you a firm button
press.  Be sure to replace the spring.

FYI, my 742ad had mike problems, even if I put
a brick on it it would not key up radio.

SO, some alcohol on a qtip and I cleaned out
the ptt switch on the mike board.

Now it works non stop !!
