Noise coming from speaker during transmit
« on: July 12, 2008, 11:10:33 AM »

Hello there.
I hope someone can help. Was having a tune about the bands today with my Icom706 mk2g when I decided to give a call on 40mtrs.On doing so I discovered that my TX audio was coming out of the speaker on top. It only seems to happen on Hf not 2mtrs. Could this be a bad fault?

Cheers Kev

I have used the MFJ RFI Choke Kits http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-701 for the speaker wires in my mobile and home stations.  Wind as many of turns of cable as you can get through the ferrite and clip it shut.  Should solve your problems.

My guess would be RFI cause by an insufficient ground at the antenna. Check out http://www.k0bg.com/

Thanks you for the reply's.
I dont think its Rfi. Reason being I connected a dummy load on and it still happen's. Running on 1w. I still hear a distorted Tx audio from speaker(mine). Not loud but enough for me to hear.

I suggest if you are using an external speaker that you
install a .001 ceramic cap across the speaker wires at
both the speaker and the radio to drain off the RF.
