RCI-2950 : beep on turning-on, but not working
« on: March 04, 2009, 07:31:36 AM »

Hi !

Just got an RCI-2950 from an Ebay auction.
It is from 1996 but looking OK.

When I try to turn it on, I just hear a short "BEEP" coming from the mainboard, nothing else.

Could anyone please let me know if this BEEP is normal or if it is an error beep ? In this case, what does it mean ?

Thanks in anticipation.

Regards

Reg

From your profile:

"almost 270 DXCC confirmed on 11metres"

DXCC doesn't recognize 11m contacts.

Tnx for your useful comment.
Is it related to my technical problem ? No.

Any help with my RCI-2950 will be welcome.

"Just got an RCI-2950 from an Ebay auction."

Sounds like a personal problem.

By the sounds of it , the main CPU is shot ,that is a typical problem for that radio. I have seen many like that. Power it up and here a high pitched beep, no display.

Ignore those who bash 11 meters , its great while on trips if you want to get reports on just about anything.

hi,

Once again, a question is asked and the
poster gets slammed for asking about non ham gear.

CB has rules in usa, but if you're in another
country, they are different rules.

hope you can get the radio working again.

No one bashed non-ham gear. The 2950 IS ham gear!!!

I only commented on a claim by the OP - to wit, he had DXCC on 11m. There is no such thing as 11m DXCC, unless he did it back before 11m was changed from a ham band to Citizens Band and that was about 50 years ago.

A true statement os NOT bashing.

Get your facts straight.

Lon,

11M operation is non sequitur.

do you stop at the profiles or do you
run license checks on everyone who posts ?
what is next, NCIC searches ?

Give it a break, James.

Anyone who says something you don't agree with, you attack. I couldn't care less what you think.

Lon,

I've never, ever attacked anyone here on
Eham.net or on the air, period.

What I am saying is, I'm come here to learn and
also lend a hand once in a while if I can.

Many experienced members on Eham.net, yourself included !

While we are here in US, Eham.net reaches worldwide,
we do have our share of international members.

Just as I posted to another forum on Eham,
some people just post stuff that they would never, ever
say to another ham face to face at a meeting or hamfest.

Regards,

James

I know what's wrong with this equipment.

But:

You're obviously not a Radio Amateur.

Plus

We are, most of us.

Plus

You intend on using the equipment in an illegal manor, and admit it via your profile.

Plus

If you can repair it yourself with some tutorial from me, you have the knowledge to pass a Technicians exam, at least, but choose not to.

Equals

No help from me.

To me, it's the same thing as showing up on 75M wanting a QSO from a licensed Amateur without being licensed yourself. You get told you're operating illegally and roundly ignored. I'm not trying to sound elitist, just telling you how I and most Amateurs feel about this.

That leaves one option; Take it to a place that will repair it, it won't cost much, it's a very simple fix.

14IR107 hello!
I (unlike many elitists here) am familiar with how big 11 meters is OUTSIDE of the USA. and for those who dont, they should check into all the major activites going on around the world and get their head out of the dirt. this is NOT the USW the United States Web, but it IS the WORLD WIDE WEB and there ARE people who actually live OUTSIDE the US who have every right to come to this site and ask a question. the "checking" of licenses of posters here is rediculous.

an old saying says if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. remember this the next time you post something that has nothing to do with the questions asked. if you are not providing info for a solution, then you ARE part of the problem.

if ham radio is going to turn into a gestapo affair then i want nothing to do with it.
