I have strayed from ham radio a bit in the last couple of years. I have sold out my HF gear and have been really missing it.  Since my preferred operating mode and band was 20M CW, I was thinking about building a kit or homebrewing a QRP rig.  I am pretty good with a soldering iron and schematics, but I don't have much money to spend due to being in high school with limited funds. Any suggestions on something I could put together for a reasonable price?

There are lots of fine QRP rig kits out there with many avid followers.  Two suppliers I would check out are Small Wonders Labs and Ten Tec.  Both offer a rig with case for around $ 100.  The SW is available cheaper if you supply your own case.  The Ten Tec rig (I have one for 40 meters) is solid, but being solid it is larger than the SW.  Key features I have found important to enjoy using such a rig are having a superhet receiver (less interference) and receiver incremental tuning (RIT).  I think both have these.  Check out their web sites for more info.  You may also want an electronic keyer, which can be in a separate box or built inside either of these rigs.  Check out Embedded Research maker of Tick keyers.

If you got a PC I would recomend NJQRP's 80M warbler.  I like cw too, but for 45 bucks plus an antenna you could be on psk.
