I did read about someone who was able to buy them by contacting
the company directly in Japan.  I don't have their number, but will
see if I know someone who does.  Although there is a good chance
that the person who answers the phone will speak English, I have
found that FAX is often the best way to communicate with foreign
firms, as they can take it to someone who can translate it instead
of trying to do it in real time.

They also made a 40m HT, and I think a 40/15/6 meter HT as well.

I received this a year or two ago, as part of a conversation
regarding their direction finding receivers:

>According to Chen BA1HAM, Mizuho's telephone number in
>Japan is 81-42-723-1049

I haven't tried it to see if it works, or if the receptionist speaks
English, but it is worth a try.

An alternative has to be the Yaesu FT817. This is a small portable transceiver for all bands, all modes, 160m - 70cms, 5W and works great from home or hilltops (hand portable).

Waters and Stanton in the UK were still selling the little MX15 and MX20 rigs until recently - check them out as they export.

I didn't think they were still aroud. I had picked up a Mizuho 2 meter cw/ssb rig at a ham fest in NJ. worked fairly well but couldn't get the right crystal for the other half of the band. was the size of an ht, ran 1/2 watts into a 5weatt amp/power supply.

As far as I know, these Mizuho rigs are still sold by Waters and Stanton in England.Their website is something like www.watersandstanton.co.uk
I own a Mizuho MX-7; I bought it from them by mail-order a few years ago. I needed a QRP rig for a cross-
country skiing tour in the Canadian Rockies and this Mizuho seemed the smallest rig available:about the size
of a conventional walkie-talkie;no external battery pack needed, batteries will fit inside.
Works as advertised;drawback is lack of side-tone on CW;and receiver is prone to cross-modulation on 40 m
in the evening in Europe, though there is a very easy modification for this which makes the receiver good to
use here. RX will probably be OK in the USA,has more than enough sensitivity.Have never tried SSB with it...
