Wire Loop antenna for 40 - 20M / QRP DXCC

My loop is fabulous! It's 302' long, up about 50' with four supports, fed with 300 ohm window line, and tuned with a ZM-2 tuner. I run only QRP CW, and work the world.

There's an article about hanging a loop at

Like the WB2 mentioned, I also have a loop...triangular in shape, total length of 300 feet.  This antenna exhibits INSANE gain on 10 and 15 meters.  With 2 or 3 watts, I can work DX on the first or second call.  If the station CAN'T hear me, it's either because someone called him that I can't hear, QSB, or a pile-up.  Normally though, it's outstanding.  What's more, a local ham buddy of mine worked a Belarus station that wasn't running much power...so he was faint at best.  My pal, Peter, has  a BIG tower and beam, and I could hear BOTH sides of his QSO.  Let's just say he was pretty shocked when he found out that I could hear him.

As I've said before...in the almost 17 years I've been a ham, I wonder daily how I ever survivied without a loop.

Build yourself a vertical full wave square loop with about 145 feet of wire. Feed in the center of one vertical sides using a 1/4 wave 75 ohm matching section to bring the impedence down to 50 ohms.  A little noisey but a great DX performer.

My 160m horizontal delta loop (540 ft long at 40 ft hight, feed in the corner, no balun, only a 50 ohms coaxial stub) features the same results on TX mode in the 20m band in DX operation like my tribander yagi (three elements). On RX mode I have one S-unit of noise reduction. Forty meters operation: very good RX but the radiation pattern give me some black holes on TX mode. Ten and 15m I don“t work with this antenna because I have hight RF feedback in the shack.
Sorry my poor english.

I run 1 160M horizontal loop at about 45' with my FT-817.  I find it to be a great antenna on 80M, 40M & 20M.  I've only been operating HF for a couple months, but I've already WAS on 80M SSB with 5W into this antenna, DX into South America, Africa & Europe as well.  All w/o an antenna tuner.
