Lightning Protection for HF Remotes
« on: September 22, 2009, 02:43:26 PM »

I'm considering setting up an HF remote station.  I live in Kansas and we have plenty of thunderstorms here.  I'm wondering what lightning protection systems people are using for their remote station since by nature they are "online" all the time.

Same as you should have for your home station - a single point ground system. Check the amateur radio grounding information on the Polyphaser web site.

Polyphasers are the way to fly... I've had repeaters running for many years, and some have taken some nasty hits. Polyphasers have saved the day on more than one occasion.

I'll third that.  I have an HF remote running way out in the lonely Nevada desert. It gets clobbered a few times every year.  I use good single point grounding and polyphasers.  The rig, computer, and dish internet keep on ticking.

Polyphaser, 100% at my QTH.

No exceptions.
