Dual Band radios
« on: January 15, 2002, 07:33:11 PM »

Buying a new mobile dual bander, I want to try to work some fm birds. I think I have it narrowed down to either Kenwood or Icom. Any pros or cons on either radio? Thanks in advance

Kenwood and Icom make a bunch of radios. You want to
narrow that down a bit to specific models? {grin}

I have the Kenwood TM-D700A and love it. It has a
TNC built-in for use with FM digital satellites in
addition to being able to work voice birds. With a
GPS, you can even do APRS with the unit.

It is a very sweet radio. It's also a bit expensive
and won't do SSB. It does, however, have all the
high-end dual-band radio features you'd expect from
an FM-only rig.
