Though it's not mentioned in the manual, can my new Yaesu FT-60R VHF/UHF HT do
satellite work?

I do not know about your specific radio, but here is the rule of thumb. Can you transmit on VHF and still receive on UHF at the same time?  If so, it is capable of doing FM sats easily with the right antenna.  It is a best practice to be able to hear the downlink while transmitting on the uplink so you can hear yourself.  If you can't hear yourself, quit transmitting, you may be QRMing the sat.

KT0DD (Todd) posted a method in the reviews here as a follow up to an earlier post there by him indicating that is was possible -- though it is missing now. If I recall you program the receive band/freq/tone into a memory, then (as though an odd split?) select the SAME memory and program the x-mit band/freq/tone. I don't have an FT-60 (yet) so I may be a little rough on the description, but it's a starting point.

You might also try one of the two yahoo FT-60r groups: FT-60 and FT60 at http://groups.yahoo.com/
