Need help getting a TenTec Pegasus connected to PC
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:17:31 PM »

Hello all, name is Sam aa8wl and I picked up a TenTec Pegasus 550 at an estate sale and I am trying to get the thing up and running. Here's the issue: It doe's not connect to the computer and computer screen says "Demo mode" as it is not connecting to the computer for some reason. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I downloaded the Pegasus software and even downloaded Ham radio deluxe but neither works. Both programs I have tried and neither is reading the frequency. Did I mention that I did not get a manual with this radio. I am hoping that someone will be able to help me get this little box running. I hear it's a nice little box and I would like to run it for awhile and play with the controls like a kid with a new toy. TNX in advance for any help or suggestions to achieve my goal of getting the "Box" operating. 73' de aa8wl, Sam

Make sure that the RS232 cable that you are using is a straight through cable with all 9 pins connected. Null modem (crossover) and/or 3 wire subset cables will not work. The Pegasus depends on the various flow control lines being present.

If you have the Ten-Tec software and the correct cable, as mentioned, then it should work.
Installation Sequence:  A: Make sure Pegasus power switch is OFF:  B: Boot up PC Load software (if not already done)  Pegasus software defaults to COM 1 D: Exit Pegasus software  E: Turn on Pegasus front panel power switch. The ON light is lit and the RX light is flashing  F:  Launch the Pegasus software and you should see the RADIO window on the screen and the RX light should no longer be flashing.  Ham Radio Deluxe does NOT work with the Pegasus.
I hope this helps.
