Kenwood TS-570DG with SP31??
« on: November 24, 2001, 08:08:43 PM »

Hello

I have a 570DG and looking to get a external speaker, I have seen the SP23 is the matching speaker but can you still use the SP31??

If anyone has tried this I would like to know if it works ok.

Thanks

I actually use one of the many lef over stereo speakers I have around the house...a 12" x 6" x 4" speaker has enough base to take out some of the scratchy hisses, and I set it pointing at me..I'm a little hard of hearing and this works well.. 73  tom  N6AJR

Sure, it would work fine.  After all, they are all 8 ohm speakers.  Any 8 ohm speaker will work.  The SP-31 will probably sound better than the SP23, since it uses a larger diameter speaker.  The only thing "special" about the Kenwood speakers is that they match the color/style of the rigs.  Plus, the SP-31 has a couple of switchable, passive filters.

As was already stated, try a left-over stereo speaker, you'll like what you hear.

I like the MFJ 281 ClearTone Speaker. Have not used a better speaker for CW or voice. If you want Hi-Fi I would suggest a music store purchase, but for a communications speaker the low cost MFJ 281 works great. I have 5 of them, use them mobile and on rigs in the shack.
